The carpet is made of Halfa, a plant that emerges irregularly on the edges of the river. It is also one of the plants that is permanently disposed of as an obstacle to agriculture. The ropes are braided and assembled as a main material, and in some designs it is embroidered with drawings and decorations for fronds inspired by the Oasis heritage.
